From front garden refreshes to full backyard transformations. Free consultation, honest pricing, quality that lasts.
We understand drainage, levels, soil conditions, and how outdoor spaces connect to your home — because we come from a building, design and engineering background.
That means we get the technical detail right from the start. Choosing the right plants for your site and lifestyle, making the most of your space, and building things properly so they last. Whether it's a full backyard transformation or a single retaining wall, the approach is the same.

Whether your project is a $5,000 front garden or a $20,000 backyard transformation, the same expertise and attention goes into every job.

"Byron's professionalism was reflected in his hard-working team. They went above and beyond everything we asked for — we didn't need to cover any of it DIY."
"Our new garden for our new home. Manny and his team worked tirelessly. Quality of work is very good — impressed by this team and their enthusiasm."
"Transformed our backyard from a construction site mess into something beautiful in 3 days. Attention to detail and quality of finish is outstanding."

This is where we add the most value. We spend time understanding how you'll use the space, what will thrive in your specific conditions — soil, sun, drainage — and how much maintenance you realistically want to do.
Plant selection is matched to your site and lifestyle, not just what looks good at the nursery. If you want a garden that largely takes care of itself, we design for that from the start with the right species, groundcovers, mulching strategy, and irrigation.
Premium turf supply and installation — Sir Walter, TifTuf, and other varieties suited to Melbourne conditions. We don't just roll turf onto dirt. Full site prep includes soil conditioning, grading for drainage, and professional edging so your lawn stays defined.
This is where technical knowledge matters most. Retaining walls need proper drainage, correct compaction, and the right system for the height and soil conditions. We engineer every wall for the specific conditions — timber sleeper, concrete block, and rendered systems.
From bluestone paths to exposed aggregate entertaining areas. We understand substrate preparation, expansion joints, reinforcement, and drainage falls — the technical detail that separates work that lasts from work that cracks.
A garden is only as good as its watering. We design and install professional irrigation systems — drip, spray, and micro systems — zoned for different plant needs. Set-and-forget watering that keeps everything healthy without waste.
Clean edging makes the difference between a garden that looks designed and one that looks DIY. We offer everything from standard steel to our custom corten — fabricated and welded on-site for permanent, seamless lines that won't shift or separate.
Timber picket, Colorbond, slat screening, and privacy fencing. Properly footed, braced, and built to handle Melbourne wind loads. We also do feature gates and garden screens.
Moving into a new build and staring at dirt? We handle everything — from site clearance to turf, garden beds, paths, fencing, letterbox, and clothesline. One team, one quote, done in 1–3 weeks. We coordinate with your builder if the home is still being finished.
That's what the free consultation is for. We'll look at your site and talk you through your options.

A full home landscaping project on the Mornington Peninsula — multiple outdoor zones designed for different uses, from entertaining areas to quiet garden retreats, connected by a cohesive design that works with the natural coastal environment.
The property sits 4 metres above street level. We designed and built floating concrete steps to bridge the height difference between the street and front door, creating an attractive entry that works with the steep terrain rather than fighting it.
Planting was selected to be native and low-maintenance — creating a statement while respecting and complementing the lush natural environment and established coastal moonah trees. The result is a landscape that feels like it belongs, not one that's been imposed on it.

Get a Free Quote →We started BMEL because we saw an opportunity to bring building-industry knowledge to outdoor spaces — and because we genuinely love creating natural environments that connect people to the outdoors.
BMEL Landscapes brings together qualifications in architecture, civil engineering, and construction management — combined with years of hands-on experience across residential building, renovations, and landscaping.
We pursued landscaping because of a genuine passion for it. We love the practical application of design thinking and engineering knowledge in outdoor spaces — building natural environments that help people connect their indoor and outdoor living, and appreciate nature as part of their homes and daily lives.
That background means we approach every project differently. We understand how outdoor spaces connect to buildings, how to select the right materials and vegetation for each site, and how to build things so they last. Whether it's a full backyard transformation or a front garden refresh, the same knowledge and attention goes into every job.
At this stage, we do most of the work ourselves — Byron and Manny are both actively on-site for every project. For technical-specialty tasks, we work with a team of trusted professionals we've built relationships with over the years.
With extensive experience across residential and commercial landscaping, building, renovations, and insurance repairs, Byron most enjoys the practical application of design thinking and engineering knowledge. He handles design, quoting, client communication, and is on the tools alongside Manny for every build. Byron holds dual degrees in architecture and civil engineering from Monash University.
With a Bachelor of Construction Management and hands-on experience across both residential building and landscaping, Manny manages projects from ground-break to handover. He leads the crew on-site, handles scheduling and procurement, and ensures every job is built to the standard we've set — properly, on time, and with no shortcuts.

Full public liability and WorkCover insurance. Fully compliant.
Correct materials, suitable vegetation, proper drainage, compaction, and reinforcement. The stuff you can't see after handover is often the most important part of the job.
If your budget doesn't match your expectations, we'll tell you upfront and help you find the best outcome for what you can spend.
We choose plants that will thrive, materials that will last, and irrigation that keeps everything healthy. The goal is a garden that looks better over time, not worse.
Clear communication from start to finish. No mystery about what's happening or what it costs.
We come to you, walk the property, and talk through what you want. We'll give you honest feedback on what's realistic — including budget, timeline, and any site challenges we spot. No sales pressure. If we're not the right fit, we'll tell you.
You get a clear, itemised quote — every material, every quantity, every labour component listed. We explain what everything costs and why. If you need to adjust to fit budget, we show you where to save without cutting corners on the things that matter.
We show up when we say we will, keep the site clean, and communicate throughout. Photo updates during the build. If anything unexpected comes up — drainage issues, soil conditions — we discuss it with you immediately before proceeding.
We walk you through everything — watering schedules, how to care for different plants and materials, what to watch for in the first few weeks. You get a written maintenance guide and we're a phone call away if you need us.

Book Free Consultation →Indicative ranges based on our project experience across Melbourne's eastern suburbs. Every property is different — we provide exact quotes after a free on-site visit.
Most of our projects fall between $5,000 and $20,000.
Site access is often the biggest variable. Good rear access for a mini excavator is significantly cheaper than hand-carrying materials through a narrow side gate. This alone can add $3,000–$5,000.
Soil conditions vary across Melbourne's east — from sandy loam to heavy clay to rock. Clay needs more drainage work. Rock increases excavation costs.
Material selections give you the most direct control over budget. We always present options and explain exactly what you gain or lose at each price point.
